Organizing My Month Visually

Organizing My Month

I am a very visual person and I would like to think I could enter everything on my Droid and be done with it.

However, I need stuff staring me in the face so I can keep up with everything. Not too mention I like having the information where everyone else in the family can see it as well.

My Whiteboard Calendar is Perfect !!

When I get to about the third week of the month I will erase the month and start with the last week of the month and start the next month. That way I can see what is coming up.

The kids can see when I am going to be home or when I have a late week at work.  Plus since it is a dry erase and our lives are always changing it makes it super easy to make changes as needed.

I like to think that it also helps the hubby keep up with the kids’ appointments. I am not sure if he actually ever looks at the board but it makes me feel better knowing I put it out there. We display the calendar in our kitchen because that is the highest traffic area.

Do you have a system that helps your family stay on track for the month?

One on One

Organizing my time for each kid

Find time to spend with each kid individually can be difficult sometimes just because of time constraints and just life.

However, on this day I was super lucky and was able to spend some genuine one on one time with both the kiddos!

The hubby and I make an effort to occasionally (like once a year if we are lucky) to take each kid out by themselves and make it their special date. Our kids are so close in age neither one of them knows life without the other nor what it is like to get that individualized attention.

Haley and I hit up the nail salon to get some much needed wanted pedis. It was SO nice! I love hanging out with her chatting about girl stuff!

Who doesn’t just LOVE Denny’s! It was about 9:30 at night and Haley was at a sleepover and the hubby was out on a bear hunt and Cody said he had been crazy pancakes and he thought me and him should hit up Denny’s.

So I said SURE WHY NOT!?  He must have caught me at a moment of weakness.  I have to drive 25 minutes each way to get there and it was late, I was tired, but I didn’t hesitate!

Yup – there is my boy! All swagger like huh? We had the best time just the two of us chatting about the day and how dad’s hunt was going.  It was so nice to enjoy his company just together.

We try to make each kid feel special individually. Some days it is tough to carve out individual or special moments for each of them.  I like to hope that the moments we do have create a lasting impression and a great memory for down the road.

Is there anything you do for each kid? I would love to hear any ideas!

Updating Emergency Kits

Some of you may have previously visited my blog and read about preparing for a disaster and the steps you should take for your family.  If you haven’t had the opportunity please visit Are you Ready Part 1 and Are you Ready Part 2 these are some ideas of how to put a kit together. You can also visit Getting My Act Together which shows how I put my kit together.

Since it has been over 4 months since I created my emergency kits I decided it was time to check on the kids and rotate the items out if needed.   My kits are clearly marked so if we have to evacuate for any reason (really Arizona only gets wildfires) but just in case we can grab and go!

I checked the expiration dates on all the food. If it expired within the next 3 months I pulled it out and rotated new food in.

I added to my kit, I figure it I continue to add and update every quarter I will have a very thorough kit within the next 6 months.

I try to have a variety of food that everyone could choose from. I have put cups, utensils etc. so if we have to grab and go.

Do you have an emergency kit?  This is like car insurance for me. It is a great to have and in the event of an emergency we will be SO glad I took the time to have a kit. But I hope we are never in the situation to have to use it. Better be prepared!  I would love to hear any tips or tricks you may have on being prepared for an emergency situation.

Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness
or RAK as I like to call it!
When is the last time you did something to make someone else’s day better?
Just because?
How many times do you see stray carts sitting in the parking lot when you go to the store?

Someone has to come get these. If the wind is blowing it could blow into your car OR hit someone else’s car.
We are going into the store anyways right?
Why not grab a cart and take it while you go?
I know someone will appreciate it!
This is a random act and we don’t know who it will impact. I love doing things for others!
What kind of difference can you make in someone’s day?

Let's Fall Into Organizing

Finding motivation to stay on track can be difficult at times. However, I decided that starting in October I would complete one task a day to fall back into the routine of organizing, cleaning, and staying on track.
Deciding our master closet was the worst of the worst, I decided to tackle this problem head on!

Horrible, I know!

Really it is down right embarrassing but with both of us working the closet tends to take the brunt. This is one reason I started here.

How many pairs of boots can one man own?

This suit case has been sitting here since we took a vacation back to TN in June!

I decided I needed a system that hopefully we both can maintain.

I found these little nifty containers at our $.99 Store.

They work perfect for sorting make-up and personal items.

After a few hours and many bags of trash. I was so happy I buckled down and took the time to clean up our closet.

I was so happy I could walk on the floor without stepping on something.

I have a little more work to do on straightening up my clothes. But I will put that on my calendar as I fall back into organizing during the month of October.
So what are you waiting for?  Make your list and get started!
What do you like to use to get organized?
